Spacier, druggier and more (ahem, sorry) “pastoral”; full of semi acoustic strums, passages of phaser and tappety drums. A music perfect for hunting crop circles.
And there you had it, a great band, seemingly at the beginning of something new.
An absolutely blistering record.
Incredibly the primal howls on Derdang Derdang didn't satisfy Sam Windett or Mark Cleveland enough. During the Derdang Derdang recording they decided to find the time to build a studio in a barn and bash out this sonic Golem
The band did a good job in carrying the vibe (which always is a bit weird at Metropolis, maybe it's the profusion of pit bull terriers, but you can never really relax at this festival…)
"I do like the slightly obscure stuff, in the British eccentric tradition. The Groundhogs just did their own thing. A lot of people said that they thought we were from Norway, which we quite liked! "
"But, overlook this LP at your peril. It has got that elusive something special tag, that spark of genuine creation that is impossible to manufacture or summon at will."
